Cool..kewl!!

Yeah..I have to post this matter in my blog..hehe..

I was so excited yesterday nite..I went to 3 different pubs..guess wat???the last pub was actually the pub where JR Tolkien(LOTR) and CS Lewis(Narnia) used to meet…fuiyo..

Yeah it is called The Eagle and Child..my friend showed me the room where both of the Professors used to discuss things..Kinda like cool place to visit..

Tomorrow I will be going to the dining hall where Harry Potter shot the film. It is in the Christ Church College..They have this staircase which was used in HP movie.can’t wait..

I feel like living in the old traditional English magician world now. I have to wear my gown (its like graduation robe) for every dinner..Its so like Harry Potter..haha.Kinda funny where we have this high table thing..n all in gown..different experience.

Today I had my matriculation ceremony.Where all the new students have to wear our "sub fucs" (uniform} with black gown n mortar board..We went to this big hall where the Vice Chancellor gave speech in latin .(I don’t see the point actually). With this matriculation ceromany I am formally enrolled as Oxford student n my membership to this university is for my lifetime. Then we took college picture..

I feel like Oxford has too uch of ceremonies and celebrations..I wonder when can I start to do my reading proper..i am very different from all the Oxford students..they play hard and work hard..but for me,,i don’t really play hard,,n don’t really work hard(have not started anything yet actually).

Yeah..will post something interesting very soon.:-)

Read eyes

October 11th, 2006 by adibahsyazni

I went to the eye specialist today..As usual my redish eyes occured. It was so bad until I couldn’t sleep last night..The doctor asked me to do blood test.Yup,they took some of my blood. The funny part was when the nurse tried to find my vein to take the blood. They couldn’t find my vein cos it’s too tiny. the nurse told my that I hv baby’s vein tat does not suit my age.

I was so lucky to hv Bk with me here..He accompanied me to the hospital n waited.I was so surprised tat he stopped at one supermarket to buy some groceries. He cooked for me today..a nice vegetable soup…

Pity him cos  he was so tired n afraid tat i wouldn’t like the soup.It was nice, for a first timer like him..yeah,,we even asked his house mate to eat together.

With this red eyes, I still went to the corporate finance class..To my suprise, half of the class hv had some working experience in corporate law firms n some even had completed their phd in Corporate n commercial law..

Now my eyes is getting better..Hopefully everything will be fine here.Really glad and appreciate Bk’s presence in my life yesteryears, today n in the future..

Not my thing

October 8th, 2006 by adibahsyazni

I tried rowing this afternoon..I knew the Club’s secretary and signed up..I planned with my good friend Sally to go together..We met around 12.50 n walked to the Boat House..

Its 15 mins walk from my college..I guessed only me n Sally were the graduates for 1pm rowing sessions..Sally n I were very determined and we wanted to try something different..yeahh..the river is so beautiful.Got ducks n swan around..

Upon my arrival at the Boathouse, there were many team members waited for us..I saw many boats n people rowing around..cool..Me and sally were very excited n couldn’t wait to get into the boat n row..

The team member explained some important stuff about rowing..the skills etc..but I personally think that the explanation is not very helpful..

Yeah,,went into the boat..8 of us.there was one captain in front commanded us wat, where, how to do…yeah..

BUT,,,went the boat really departed from the shore,,Oh my God,,I felt like its gonna fell down..I tried to hold my rowing stick(rower) but its just too heavy..the wind, and the water flow is just too hard until i felt like want to fall down..seriously..It is very difficult..extremely difficult than I thought.

I heard the captain shouted "no 61"…"no 6"…then I realized that I was actually that no 6..I was too bad until the boat had to stop n the captain had to teach me alone..so malu..

n the people in front of me was one of the University rower n he got pissed off of me because i rowed wrongly n tak paham2…hahaha

Yeah this is my new experience..n from now I know tat rowing is NOT MY THING n never will be..Sally felt the same way too..yeah!!!

Culture Thinggy

October 6th, 2006 by adibahsyazni

I kinda confuse n tired n trying to be positive…My so called flat mate..!!!huh..i x want to write anything just yet cos I don’t really want to ruin my one precious year here…Try to be positive..

I went to this Fresher’s dinner..with the rector of the college.university of Oxford has 39 colleges. These colleges are actually university of Oxford..Of course we have our own department. The law department here is half size of UIA’s..n kinda old..I reside in Lincoln College, established in1420’s..the one in Harry Potter movie is Christ Church College. At least 13 of the US Presidents went to Christ Church..the famous college here are Merton, Trinity and Balliol..

KJ went to St Hugh.

After the dinner, we have this stupid party..All the graduates dressed in formal attire..Of cos lah, dinner with the rector..Suddenly in the pub, I was made to understand tat the undergrads were also having their party..they have this Costume party..

I was so shocked to see these youngsters acting like crazy..with the bras and panties, they were like high on drugs,,,dancing like nobody’s business..Actually all my graduate frens were shocked too..Eventhough I know the Westerners have tis kind of culture but my Irish fren keep on stressing tat the undergraduates here are over.

BK really enjoyed the scenery n shocked at the same time..haha..

The funny part iwas when this one undergrad fresher came to me dresssed like a fairy. He chit chat wif me 4 a while,,he claimed to be "Fabian the Fairy"..I tried my best to concentrate but I knew he was so drunk..Tried to get BK’s help, but he seemed very bz chatting wif this one Korean Gal.Luckily my fren Doris came n joined us..Doris knew I was afraid,,so she kinda say "goodbye’ to this boy.We tried to get rid of him. After the 6th.good bye,,then only he went away..huh..moral of the story,,stay away from the drunk ppl.

Tonite I feel proud to be Muslim n Malaysian..Eventhough we don’t have this pub drinking thing,,we still enjoying our life to the fullest.Yeah,,teh tarik is fine.We have our limit n dignity..For me, we are better disciplined than them.My friends here really respect my principle.they know I am happy to join them but I have my limit. For this I would like to thank my malay, malaysian n islamic culture cos they are  above par compared to the English culture..:-)

Clubs

October 5th, 2006 by adibahsyazni

I went to this Fresher’s fair tis morning..where all the clubs in Oxford have their booth n representatives..I signed up for few clubs which I know I will not going..N been scolded by BK becos he just knew I won’t be going to any of the club I signed up..

For Example :

1)Hong Kong Students’ Club - I signed up because they have this ice skating class..

2)Mandarin Class - Because BK stressed tat I’ve promised to learn mandarin

3)Thailand’s Club - Because there was this Asian Food Festival Coming,n they promise tat members will get food promotion…I’m craving for Tomyam now

4)Salsa Dance Club- I don’t know wat happened to me at tat spur of registration moment.

5)Malaysian club -Which is the smallest n not interesting booth..The representative was not even Malaysian.I asked y tat booth is small, the answer was tat because the rest is espensive,,this is the cheapest..(what??)..

6)badminton Club -i am not very sure y..

7)Oxford UN society - Seems very international n cool

8)OU Islamic Society- got many useful books n goodies + I really need to know where the free iftar is

9)UNICEF - Cos I’m into human rights..

10)Kids volunteer club- where they want volunterr to help in assisting the In-need children to boost their confidence etc;;sounds fun

11)Ox law Society-boring

12)Speaker Club-boring

13) Ox Women politics Club- Got free key chain..

14) Health, dance n Yoga Club- seems very relaxing n soothing

….These are among the clubs tat I can recalled signed in..I think there are about 5 more which I can’t recall now..

Together?

October 4th, 2006 by adibahsyazni

I suddenly recalled last two nites’ joke from a Turkish senior..

I was there at one cocktail party wif Boon Ka.

I met this senior on my first day.he is doing phd in law..very nice guy..bubbly.

He introduced me to his room mate since year 1..yeahh I can see that he really like his mate.He claimed tat he used to be n is still very loud, playful,n making a lot of noise..But his room mate is to the contrary,,like prophet, very merciful n forgiving..(Both of them are guys)

His roomate asked me: Are u both(Boon ka n I) together?

I replied : yes we are, but we are not staying together..

And my Turkish senior immediately clarified : We are staying together, but we are not together..

Haha..I laughed on my way bak to my room….haha..

But tak kelakar sangat pun when I put in writing n I thinking it back now..

Subjects to choose..

October 3rd, 2006 by adibahsyazni

Hye…i am very exhausted tonite..It is only 9.08 pm but I really have to zz..

Today I have this thing called "Tester Lectures"..It was from 1.45 to 6.30 pm..There were about 30 lecturers came and gave talk about their subjects. Each took around 10 mins for the brief description.

I’m quite interested in Human Rights and Armed Conflict.I have to choose between Corporate Finance and Civil Procedure..these subjects are killing me.. I have to make up my mind so tat I can start at least finding the course outline..I was shocked tat the lecturer really put in the course outline tat they expect us to give presentation on the first day of class.

The system here is a bit different. i wil be having mostly seminars. It is like discussions of the topic wif the lecturers. Meaning that all reading must be done before hand..I met some lecturers who have written books tat are currently been using as Uia’s textbook..Eg:Ashworth(Criminal Law) Pila(IP) Sarooshi and Akande(International law),Fredman etc.Tepper for Evidence is here as well.

Most of my International friends intend to take up Corporate law, Conflict of law and all the European law stuff..There are about 150 BCL and Mjur(those from Civil law backgrfound) here.I met 2 Lawasia mooter here.they are from China and Australia.have met them last year in gold Coast.

Yeah..I know life will be very serious and hactic next week..This week we still having some parties and movies. It is called Fresher’s week.So all clubs organize something for the Freshers.

About my fasting.. I am fine.Only tat the temperature is getting colder.I have a new housemate today..Grace,from London doing English..Boon Ka also got a new housemate today, Xavier from Switzeland..

I think for the law prog, there are many International students..i can say tat there a large no of students coming from Germany, Australia, India,Ireland and Hong Kong.Let alone the Brits and those from USA.. only me and Boon Ka from Malaysia doing this course.

Yeah,,I know this post is boring..As I said before, at least I recorded something and write..Will be posting more interesting stuff n experience soon..:-)

New Beginning

September 29th, 2006 by adibahsyazni

I have to start writing. So tat at least I recorded something. The first thing I wanna share is about my new life in Oxford..Boring ek?…No lah, my food here. This will be better n interesting.

Food-When I was in Malaysia, I seldom think n crave for any particular food. My mom every morning asked me"Akak hari ni nak makan apa?cakap je lah, mak masak".Because emak also don’t have any idea wat to cook sometimes..My standard answer- "tak kisah,,apa2 je".My mom will frustrated wif this answer n opt to the easiest way,ie: beli luar..

N when my dad asked wat I want to have for dinner, Tikah,Afiq n I will automatically said "tak Kisah"..I know he will bring us to Sup Sitam or sebelah dewan to eat tauhu bakar..yummy.

I seldom finished my food,if makan kat luar.N if makan kat rumah,,I will tambah nasi but to jaga badan I controlled lah jugak.

I remember the past rayas..I helped emak to cook. It took more than 6 hours to prepare the raya dish..rendang n lodeh.(ketupat beli yg segera). But pagi raya, I ate only 1% of everything.Pegi rumah grandma n aunties pun makan sikit..Sebab excited raya kot, sbb tu tak makan byk.

N masa kat UIA,sometimes pun skipped dinner.sebab dah kenyang..Sumtimes had big lunch,,malam only makan buah or malas nak beli kat cafe sumayyah.

BUT now…I regret n really appreciate my food in Malaysia..huhu.I rindu kat my mom pny curry n gulai..sayur goreng,ayam masak kicap,,sup sitam,ABc,roti canai,mee goreng,capati,laksa, soto..semuaaa lah..

I x familiar wif Oxford halal food lagi..Boon ka o.klah, dia memang tak suka makan nasi. When I complained to him tat I need to eat nasi or any Malaysian food,he will replied"apalah u ni, tgk I flexible".and I will counter replied "I tak kira, nak jugak"

I chatted ngan Id kat YM n she suggested tat I should cook telor masak kicap.I cooked just now for my berbuka..Yeah I ate rice finally.alone.telor + nasi + tauge..yup, eventhough tawar n tak berapa yummmy, at least my mood dah o.k..its like PMS woman having a choc, or drug addicts dpt drug.

I agree wif the people who thinks tat malaysian food is the best. Yup,its very true..Spicy n exotic.

I promised myself to give emak an appropriate answer when she asks bout wat to cook today?I swear tat I will eat gile2 when raya comes n will habiskan all my food bile kat Malaysia..berat naik pun takpelah..cute gak(as per Boon ka)
